About Tenses
Tenses are a part of English Grammar that shows the time of action in a sentence. There are three basic tenses, namely present, past and future tense. Moreover, these have further divisions to determine mixed timings in the sentence
On this page we’ll learn Tenses Questions and Answers –
Types of Tenses –
- Present Tense – The sentences cover the action currently happening. The words in the true when spoken.
- Example: They go to office together.
- Past Tense – The words were true. The sentences cover actions happened in the past.
- Example: They went to office together
- Future Tense – The sentences cover action which are going to happen in the future. The words will be true in the future.
- Example: They will go to office together.
Tenses mostly rely on the verbs as they play a crucial part in determining the time of action in the sentence.
Rules for Tenses –
- Simple Present & Continuous = Verb / Verb + s/es, is/am/are + verb + ing (gerund)
- Simple Past & Continuous = Verb second form, was/were + verb + ing (gerund)
- Simple Future & Continuous = Shall/will + verb, shall/will + be + verb + ing (gerund)

Past Perfect Tense | Subject + had + V3 + Object |
Past Continuous Tenses | Subject + was + V1 + ing + Object (Singular) Subject + were + V1 + ing + Object (Plural) |
Past Perfect Continuous Tense | Subject + had been + V1 + ing + Object |
Present Simple Tenses | Subject + V1 + s/es + Object (Singular) Subject + V1 + object (Plural) |
Present Perfect Tense | Subject + has + V3 + Object (Singular) Subject + have + V3 + Object (Plural) |
Present Continuous Tenses | Subject + is/am/are + V1 + ing + object |
Present Perfect Continuous Tense | Subject + has been + V1 + ing + Object (Singular) Subject + have been + V1 + ing + Object (Plural) |
Future Simple Tenses | Subject + will/shall + V1 + Object |
Future Perfect Tense | Subject + will have/shall have + V3 + Object |
Future Continuous Tenses | Subject + will be/shall be + V1 + ing + Object |
Future Perfect Continuous Tense | Subject + will have been + V1 + ing + Object |
