Definition of Statements and Assumptions

The statements and assumptions questions are an important part often found in the reasoning section. Recruiting companies, bank exams, clerk examinations and more includes the section in their papers in order to test the reasoning skills of the individuals. Furthermore, they are the optional sectional in the verbal reasoning section in most of the examinations for identifying the decision-making skills or capabilities of the candidate.
An assumption can be something we take for granted in the basis of a valid statement. A statement is given in the questions along with its two possible assumptions, where you are required to choose one out of them whichever you find suitable.

Rules for Statements and Assumptions

  • Assumptions are at all times unspecified and optimistic.

  • Words such as each, every, only, all, any, and more; words indicating interrogation such as why, what, and these; words indicating answers such as definitely, therefore, and but are undoubtedly present or found in the assumption. These words represents that the assumption will never be clear for the statement.

  • Words such as few, to large extent, some, much and many are present in the options given for statement assumption to show that assumption will always be understood.

  • All the assumptions that are carrying a meaning of notice, commercial appeal, or anything related to marketing, that option of the assumption will always be taken as implicit.

  • The assumptions which talks about the social wellbeing or anything positive, either related to government policies or procedures, those assumption will always be regarded as implicit.

  • When any assumption talks about the past as well as future time frame, remember that those assumptions will never give the clear for the given statement.

  • If any assumption showing the word like suggestion, order, request that will always be implicit. Restatement is never implicit.

  • Comparisons are said to be wrong when it comes to choosing the assumption from the options for the given statement.
