Student Interview
During our last semester TCS visited our campus for its recruitment drive. As it is one of the India’s leading IT Service and consultation organization, I really wanted to join it. I had no clues about how to organize myself for this interview. However, my seniors recommended me some Practice Sample Papers that were available at Prepinsta to brush up my programming and reasoning skills. The eligibility criteria for this drive is mentioned below:
Eligibility Criteria of Interview
Qualification | Full-time graduate from B.E/B.Tech/M.Tech./M.Sc./MCA |
Eligible Streams | All engineering fields |
%Criteria | 60% marks throughout academics |
Backlogs | 1 Active Backlog. |
Gap Criteria | Overall Gap not exceeding two years |
Number of Rounds
Our professor informed us that we have to complete 2 written and 2 interview rounds to crack the interview. The rounds were Part A(Foundation Section), Part (Advance Section) technical interview round, and HR interview round. The written examination was divided into 2 rounds, which were further divided into several sections:
- Part A (Foundation Section)
- Numerical Ability
- Verbal Ability
- Reasoning Ability
- Part B (Advance Section)
- Advance Quantitative Ability
- Advance Reasoning Ability
- Advance Coding
The average time duration and number of questions for this round are detailed below:

Since I Prepped up well with the help of the practice papers published by PrepInsta , and as most of the questions were of similar pattern to the sample papers itself so I clear both round with good marks.
*Also, this experience is based on TCS ITP Interview Experience, because this year TCS NQT has same pattern as TCS ITP.
Round 2:
Technical Interview
The technical interview was divided in two parts. First was TCS Ninja (for students who only qualified in the Foundation Section) and the other one was TCS Digital (for Students who also qualified the Advance section).
TCS Ninja
Since TCS is a renowned establishment, the interview rounds were a bit challenging. I must admit that it was a very diverse interview wherein I was asked questions related my field. Some of the questions were:
1.) Questions based on the fundamentals of C, C++ and dot net.
2.) Data Structure,
3.) Computer networking, etc.
TCS Digital
The second interview as conducted with TCS Digital. Now, this was a tricky one of all the other rounds, where I was asked the below mentioned questions:
- Check if Binary Tree is BST or not?
- Remove duplicates from a string, do it in place
- What is the least common ancestor of a Binary Tree or a Binary search tree?
- Check if the binary tree is balanced or not?
I somehow managed to answer all the question and sat that day my luck was with me. The interviewer was happy with me and told me that I was selected for the final HR round.
Round 3:
HR Interview
When I went inside the room at first the HR looked very rude, but when he offered me a glass of water, I felt a bit relaxed. He asked me for my CV and started with the interview. He asked me:
1.) What are your achievements?
2.) What are your greatest professional strengths?
3.) How do you feel about working in nights shift?
4.) What is your commitment to the company?
This round also went pretty well and my result proved it all as I was selected for TCS Digital. That was the happiest day of my life.

Student Interview
Two months back, the placement cell of our college notified all the final year students that TCS will be conducting a recruitment drive in our Off campus very soon. Since, PrepInsta is partnered with our college, we got emails from our placement cell to only study from PrepInsta and they had bought online classes from PrepInsta for all students.. Immediately, everyone applied for it. But due to the eligibility criteria of a minimum 60% marks throughout the academics career, only a few students were eligible for the drive. Fortunately, I was one of those few students. The TCS selection process had 3 rounds;
- Online Written Test
- Technical Interview Round
- HR Interview Round
Written Test
The first round consists of four sections, English, quantitative aptitude, programming concept, and coding.
- In the English Section, there were 15 questions of sentence completion. Time allocated was 10 minutes.
- In Quantitative Aptitude, there were 15 questions, and the time allocated was 30 minutes. This section had questions based on time & work, profit & loss, number, decimal fraction, time, speed & distance, coordinate geometry, and blood relations.
- In the Programming Concept section, there were 10 questions, and time allotted was 20 minutes. The topics asked were Iteration, recursion, procedural vs. Oop, Algorithms, and Data Structures.
- In the Coding Section, there was only one question, and the time allocated was 30 minutes. The question was based on Perl topic. Overall around 80% of the questions were of similar pattern as of PrepInsta.
Technical Interview
After the written round 3-4 days later I got mail from PrepInsta that I am selected in TCS and after 2 more days I got mail from TCS as well. My Interview center was in Mysore unfortunately. So I had to travel there. There was a technical interview which comprised of two interviews; TCS Ninja and TCS Digital. First, I was asked to go in the room for Ninja interview. When I entered the technical interviewer had a grim expression, so I was a bit scared at the first instance. Bust as soon as our conversation started; I was very comfortable talking to him. He asked me questions on the fundamental of C, C++, JAVA, DBMS, Oop, and my major final year project.
- What is the binary search?
- Explain the Object Oriented Programming.
- What is the difference between pass by value and pass by reference in c?
Except one, I knew all the answers. The interviewer was happy with me and sent me for the second Digital Interview. In this round, I was asked some technical questions:
- What is Garbage collector in Java?
- Explain the Kadane algorithm.
- Discuss also?
The round was very tricky and the toughest of all. I answer what all I knew, and luckily, all my answers were correct. The interviewer congratulated me for clearing the second round and wished me luck for the HR round.
HR Interview
The HR round was very simple and went pretty well. As soon as I entered the HR offered me a glass of water and asked me about my personal life, strength and weakness, future goals, and expectations. He was primarily evaluating my communication skills and confidence by asking these questions. Then he asked me if I had any query or question. I asked him to give me feedback about my interview. He said you need to work on your pronunciations and rest all is great. I thanked him and left.
A week later, results were declared, and fortunately, I reserved my seat in TCS. Then I attended Digital interview as well but it went really bad as they were asking questions from dynamic programming and Data structures etc. But, I was not selected in TCS Digital but was selected in TCS Ninja.
