### Quants

**Wipro NLTH Aptitude Questions**

**Question 1) A train of the length of 110 meters is running at a speed of 60 kmph. In what time, it will pass a man who is running at 6 kmph in the direction opposite to that in which the train is going?**

a) 6 b) 5 c) 8 d) 10

**Answer:** a) 6

**Explanation:-** Since the train and man are moving in opposite directions,

The relative speed = 60-(-6) kph = 60 + 6 = 66 kph

66 km/h in m/s = 66*5/18 = 55/3 m/s

Total distance to be covered = 110 m (length of the train)

So, time = distance/speed = 110 divided by 55/3 which equals 6 s.

So, the required time is 6 seconds.

**Question 2) A reservoir is provided by two pipes A and B. A can fill the reservoir 5 hours faster than B. If both together fill the reservoir in 6 hours, the reservoir will be filled by A alone in**

a) 12 hours b) 8 hours c) 10 hours d) 11 hours

**Answer:** c) 10 hours

**Explanation:- **If x is the speed then speed of A= x + 5 and B = x

Time taken by A and B will be x and x + 5 resp.

1/x + 1/x + 5 = 1/6 ; x2 – 7x - 30 = 0 x = -3 or x = 10.

Since time can’t be negative, x =10.

**Question 3)** **The sum of a number and the two numbers preceding it is equal to 30. Find the number:**

a) 10 b) 11 c) 9 d) 8

**Answer:** c) 9

**Explanation: **

The number is 9,

As 9 +10+11=30

**Question 4)** **A dealer buys dry fruits at the rate of ` 100, ` 80 and ` 60 per kg. He bought them in the ratio of 12: 15: 20 by weight. He in total gets 20% profit by selling the first two and at last, he finds he has no gain or no loss in selling the whole quantity which he had. What was the percentage loss he suffered for the third quantity? **

a) 30% b) 40% c) 20% d) 50%

**Answer:** b) 40

**Explanation: **Total quantity rate =

(12 * 100 + 15 * 80 + 20 * 60) = 3600

For first 2 quantity, (12 * 100) + (15 * 80) = 2400

But he gets 20% profit = 2400 * 1.2 = 2880

So the third quantity = 3600 – 2880 = 720

Actual third quantity rate = 20 * 60 = 1200

Loss suffered = (1200 - 720) / 1200

= 480/1200 = 40 %

**Question 5) The profit obtained by selling an article for Rs 480 is twice the loss obtained by selling for Rs 300. What is the cost price of the article?**

a) 350 b) 330 c) 340 d) 360

**Answer:** d) 360

**Explanation:**

Here profit is the twice the loss

Profit = 2 Loss

SP –CP = 2 (CP – SP)

480 –CP = 2(CP – 300)

3 CP = 1080

CP= 360

**Question 6) Tea worth of Rs. 135/kg & Rs. 126/kg are mixed with a third variety in the ratio 1: 1: 2. If the mixture is worth Rs. 153 per kg, the price of the third variety per kg will be____?**

a) 143 b) 167 c) 175.50 d) 178

**Answer:** c) 175.50

**Explanation:**

Since the first and second are in equal proportions.

Their average price = (135 + 126)/2 = Rs. 130.50

Now by rule of Allegation

Rs.130.50

Rs.x

Rs.153

Rs. (x-153)

Rs.22.50 {153-130.50}

Thus (x-153)/22.50 = 1

-> x - 153 = 22.50

-> x = Rs. 175.50

**Question 7) Average age of 7 family members is 75 years. But average age of 6 of them is 74 years 6 months. What is the age of the 7 ^{th} family member?**

a) 75 b) 78 c) 79 d) 80

**Answer:** b) 78

**Explanation:**

74 years 6 months = 74.5 years

Total age of 6 members = 74.5 * 6 = 447 yearsTotal age of 7 members = 75 * 7 = 525 years

Age of 7th family member = 525-447 = 78 years

**Question 8) What will be the value of x^(1/2).x^(1/4).x^(1/8)…………to infinity.**

a) x^2 b) x c) x^(3/2) d) x^3

**Answer: **c) x^(3/2)

**Explanation:**

The term is x ^ (1/2 + 1/4 + 1/8 + …). Sum of infinite series with first term 1/2 and common ratio of 1/2 is 1. So the answer is ‘x’.

Question 9) ** If the 10th term of an AP is 49 and the 14th term of the same AP is 69. Find out the first term.**

a) 3 b) 6 c) 5 d) 4

**Answer:** d) 4

**Explanation:**

Let the first term be and common difference is d.

Now, a + 9d = 49 and a + 13d = 69, on solving these equations

a = 4 and d = 5.

**Question 10) 14 men can complete a work in 25 days. How many men are required to complete the same work in 15 days? The approximation is accepted.**

a) 22 b) 24 c) 23 d) 25

**Answer: **b) 24

**Explanation: **

Let suppose the work done = number of men * days = 14 * 25 = 350 units

So, number of men required to complete word in 15 days = Total work/number of days = 350/15 = 23.333 ~ 24
