In this puzzle, the aim finding the Injection for Anesthesia. 

There are 240 injections in a medical laboratory, one of them is for rat Anaesthesia. If a rat is given an Anaesthesia injection, it will pass out in exactly 24 hours. You have 5 rats at your disposal to figure out which injection carries the Anaesthesia. In 48 hours, how do you accomplish this?

Let’s give each injection a unique five-digit number that only contains the integers 0, 1, and 2.

  • Let’s call the Rats 1, 10, 100, 1000, and 10,000.
  • The rat numbered 1 will perform the action that corresponds to the digit in the unit location.
  • The rat numbered 10 will perform the action that corresponds to the digit in the tenth spot.
  • The rat numbered 100 will perform the action that corresponds to the digit in the 100th spot.
  • The rat numbered 1000 will perform the action that corresponds to the digit in the 1000th spot.
  • A rat numbered 10000 will perform the action that corresponds to the digit in the 10000th spot.
  • The number 0 on an injection indicates that it will not be administered to rats.
  • The number 1 on an injection indicates that it will be given to rats on the first day.
  • The number 2 on an injection indicates that it will be given to rats on the second day (after 24 hours).

Let’s say the Injection has the number 11201.

  • The injections are given to rats numbered 10000, 1000, and 1 on the first day.
  • On the second day, it is injected into rat number 100.
  • It is also not injected into the rat with the number 10.

So, if the rats were numbered 10000, 1000, and 1 faint in the first 24 hours, the rat has numbered 100 faints in the next 24 hours, and the rat has numbered 100 faints in the next 24 hours, and the rat has numbered 100 faints in the next 24 hours, and the rat was numbered 100 faint numbered 10 does not faint, then the Anesthesia Injection has to be 11201.

= > 3 * 3 * 3 * 3 * 3 = 35 = 243 injections
