Detailed Guide for Placement Preparation

Placement season is here and as such a lot of our prepsters have been sending in queries on how to start their placement preparations and from where to prepare for placements. We have created this guide to help you out with placement preparations. Here you will find a comprehensive guide, which you can follow to prepare for your placements and crack interviews for all major service-based and product-based companies.

Note:- In making this guide we have assumed you know the basics of at least one programming language (C, C++, JAVA, Python). If you don’t know, then we advise preparing that first.

1. Aptitude

Aptitude is the first placement round for most service-based companies. It constitutes quantitative aptitude, logical reasoning, verbal reasoning, data interpretation, verbal ability, psychometric testing, and more.

2. Coding and DSA

Before preparing for placements you need to know at least one programming language thoroughly. Recommended languages are C, C++, JAVA, or Python as these are widely asked in placement tests for both service-based and product-based companies.

DSA Topics that are widely asked in placement exams:-

  • Time-Space Complexity
  • Recursion
  • Merge Sort
  • Quick Sort
  • Linked List
  • Stacks
  • Queue
  • Dynamic Programming
  • Graphs
  • Trees

Other important topics to prepare:-

  • Greedy Algorithm
  • Bit manipulation
  • 2 pointer approach
  • Fenwick trees
  • String
  • Hashing
  • Arrays

Other than DSA, you should also study programming language theories. These include:-

Additional topics which you can prepare after finishing the above.

All this should be enough to prepare for the placement process of all major service-based and product-based companies.

3. Upskilling

Upskilling means continuously learning new technologies to work more effectively in a workplace. This includes technical certification courses and projects.

Projects are a major part of your placement preparation. You should have at least one project on technologies like Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Cloud Computing, etc.

If you are unsure about how to prepare a project, visit our DIY Project Courses on PrepInsta Prime. We have a list of projects based on Deep Learning, Machine Learning, Neural Networks, and other technologies.

You receive a technical certification when you complete training in a particular technology. Having certificates from reputed organizations will boost your resume and help you in the interview process.

On PrepInsta, we provide Technical Certification courses. On completion, you will receive a certificate which you can share with your network and add to your resume. Some of these courses are:-

4. Interview Preparation

Three types of interviews are conducted during placements:-

  • Technical Interview
  • MR Interview
  • HR interview

Sometimes there is only one round(for example:- Infosys) and the interviewer asks questions from all the above three. In some cases, there are several interview rounds(for example:- TCS).
Below we have explained each of the rounds:-

Technical Interview:-

This is the most important of the interview rounds. The interviewers ask maximum questions from this section.

Important topics:-

  • Data Structures and Algorithms
  • OOPS concept
  • Hands-on coding questions
  • DBMS/SQL
  • Questions on programming languages theory
  • Projects

You can find over 500 technical interview questions on our Technical Interview Dashboard.

MR Interview:-

Managerial Interview is usually conducted during the HR round. However, a lot of product-based companies conduct a separate Managerial round. This round has behavioral questions and situation-based questions.

You can find the most important Managerial Interview questions on our website.

HR Interview:-

HR Interview is the last interview round. If there is only one interview round conducted, then the latter part of the interview is focused on HR questions. This section includes questions on academic experience, previous work experience, and overall personality-based questions.

You can find the top HR Interview questions on our website.

Group Discussion Round:-

Some companies (Deloitte, Goldman Sachs, etc.) conduct GD rounds, especially during the On-Campus placements. In the GD round, the candidates are segregated into groups and each group is given a topic to present on. These topics range from current affairs, socio-economic issues, and the latest technology-related topics or general(abstract) topics.

You can find the most common GD topics on our website.
