During the last semester of my B.TECH, I got an email from my placement officer that I have been selected for an interview by an overseas company Canadian Global Information Technology Consulting (CGI). So, I instantly registered for the drive and started my preparations.
Eligibility Criteria:
The eligibility standards for this drive was:
- Minimum 60% in 10th and 12th Standard.
- At least 65% in BE/B. Tech (Any Stream) and or MCA/MSc without any existing backlogs.

Suitable programming skills.
Selection Process:
The overall selection process was divided into three rounds, which are mentioned below:
Online written test.
Group Discussion
Technical and HR interview round.
Round-1
Online written test:
As per the company norms, first of all, I was asked to give an online test having a time 2 hour. The test six different parts and each part included approximately 20-25 questions.
Quants: This section consisted of approx. 20-21 questions. The questions were mostly based on
- Data Interpretation.

- Algebra.
- Equations.
- Arithmetic progression and Geometric progression.
- Profit and loss.
- Ratio Proportion.
- Percentage.
- Averages.

Since this section had negative marking, so I took 5 minutes extra to be sure about the solution.
Logical reasoning:
The second section consisted of nearly 20-25 questions related to logical reasoning, which included the below topics:
- Visual reasoning
- Blood relations
- Flowcharts
- Statement and conclusion etc.
Here again, I fixed the time limit to 20 minutes and somehow managed to complete all the questions within the fixed time.

This section contained approximately 25 questions and covered below-mentioned topics:
- Data Types

3.) English:
This part comprised of 25 questions related to:
- Contextual vocabulary

- Antonyms
- Jumbled up sentences
5.) Programming and coding Questions:
This was a technical part of the question paper, where I was given ten questions. There were seven questions which were based on technical concepts of CS-IT domain, and the remaining three were coding related where I had to write a program using any language (C, C++, Java, Python, etc.) This section also had negative marking.
Round 2 :-
Group Discussion Round:
In this round, all the selected students were divided into different groups for the group discussion. My group was asked to discuss on the topic “Are mobile phones making people less interactive socially”. We were asked to discuss on this topic for 15 minutes. In this round, the interviewers were checking the confidence and vocabulary of the participants.
The results were announced within a couple of hours, and I got to know that I was selected for the final round which was the HR interview round.
Round 3
Interview Round: In this round, I was personally interviewed by two interviewers, who asked me specific technical, managerial, and HR related questions like:
- Tell me about yourself.
- What are your hobbies?
- Do you know of TCP/IP layer?
- Explain its detailed structure.
- Why do you choose to work with our concern?
- Write a program of palindrome number.
- Where do you see yourself in the next five years?
- What are your future plans?
The interviewer also asked me if I was comfortable to relocate to which I replied with a big YES.
He asked me if I had any queries, which I hadn’t. Finally, the interview got over with a positive connotation.
The final result was declared six days later, and, I was selected for the job.
